TIMMINS - More information about a proposed treatment centre is coming in an easily accessible format, says the local social services board.
In a news release on Sept. 13, Cochrane District Services Board (CDSB) recognized the flaws in the setup of Monday's information sessions regarding the proposed Timmins and Area Wellness Centre of Excellence (WCE).
“We acknowledge the shortcomings of the intended format and are grateful for the strong turnout and valuable conversations that took place” read the release.
The new wellness centre is meant to be a centralized service hub offering mental health and addiction treatment services and transitional housing support.
The CDSB is in talks to buy the Ramada Inn in Timmins' west end to create it. It would not be an emergency shelter, offer harm reduction supplies, or be a safe consumption site.

The information session was held at the Ramada Inn ballroom and quickly hit capacity, leaving many who wanted to engage in the hallways.
Key organizations partnering in the project were at a round table, with the aim being for people to visit different representatives and have one-on-one conversations.
With so many people in attendance, not everybody had that opportunity.
Those who could not get into the meeting have been asked to submit any questions or concerns online.
“Listening to and understanding the concerns of our neighbours remains central to this process,” read the release. “We encourage anyone who was unable to contribute fully at the session to submit their questions and suggestions via online survey.”
Information about the wellness centre will be made available to the public, but the press release did not include how or when that will happen.
