The Timmins Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and Chorus continue its 40-year anniversary celebrations with their upcoming Christmas concert to be held Dec. 15 at École Secondaire Catholique Thériault’s Charles Fournier Auditorium.

The performance, teeming with local talent, will feature professionals and community musicians, children’s choirs, and a collaboration with Take Two Theatre.

“Our annual Christmas concert has become a very meaningful experience for everyone involved — the chorus, Orchestra musicians, and our audience,” said Joshua Wood, Music Director for the symphony. “This year, to highlight our 40-year milestone, we are pleased to partner with several community groups to bring a programme filled with holiday favourites, alongside some exciting new works.”

The performance will also feature soprano Kate Promane, a member of the TSO Chamber Ensemble and instructor at the orchestra’s Geoffrey James Lee School of Music.

Ms. Promane has performed in notable venues across North America, including Carnegie Hall and the Four Seasons Center with the Canadian Opera Company. Recently, she was selected by the International Resource Centre for Performing Artists (IRCPA) as one of the Ten Singing Stars: The Next Generation.

“It’s wonderful to have someone of Kate’s ability working with us, especially on a regular basis. She is an exceptional talent, and we are very fortunate to have her in the Timmins community,” added Wood.

The TSO will also perform a version of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, “The Little Match Girl,” in which the choir and orchestra will be joined by members of Take Two Theatre, including 2018 Porcupine Music Festival de musique standout Méa Dion.

Tickets are available as of Dec. 1 at the Timmins Museum, NEC and can also be purchased at the door. A reception will follow immediately after the concert in the school’s cafeteria.
