If you’re known for cooking up a mouth-watering bowl of soup, head over to a Timmins tea shop this weekend.
Since homemade soup is served up daily at the Aline’s Tea Shop, owner Claudette Lambert is looking to the community for inspiration.
The homemade soup contest is Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the winning dish will be served at the shop for a limited time. Contestants should be at the eatery located at 105 Pine St. S. by 10:45 a.m.
“It’s open to everybody, all they have to do is show up with their pot of soup and their recipe,” said Lambert.
She suggests using a slow cooker for the soup as plugs are available.
Being part of the jury is easy.
Customers wanting to tantalize their taste buds can sample the soups for free, but will be asked to fill out a card to rate how it stands up to the competition.
Lambert said there are already five people signed up. She is expecting a Borscht, along with lentil, hamburger and avocado soups. She is also planning to prepare a chicken pot pie soup, although it won’t be part of the competition.
“I just want it to be a fun-filled day of enjoying homemade soups,” she said.
Located at the corner of Pine Street South and Second Avenue, Lambert is nearing her one-year anniversary at the tea shop.
“It’s a 30-year dream, it’s something I always wanted to do,” she said.
With the contest she hopes to learn a little more about her customers, and have a few new people stop by as well.
