Timmins Tigers win nailbiter match to take championship title

Director says the players' hard work and perseverance paid off

TIMMINS - The local cricket club is on a winning streak.

The Timmins Tigers won the Northern Ontario Cup this past weekend on home turf.

It's been three years since the club won a title at home, and director Deepak Datta says the hard work and perseverance of players made the win possible.

The tournament was played Aug. 24-26 at Fernand Tremblay Park, with teams from North Bay, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie in town to compete.

A total of seven games were played.

In the championship match, Timmins and Sudbury were at the plate.

"It was a nail biter as it went down to the  last ball of the match," said Datta.

"We are grateful to the staff of city for preparing cricket ground for the tournament."

Earlier this month, the Tigers also won a tournament hosted in Thunder Bay.
