A Timmins woman is putting her authentic self out there in hopes of landing on the cover of a magazine.
Chantal Hebert is competing in the Maxim Cover Girl contest.
So far she's made it through three rounds of voting. To move on to the quarterfinals, she needs to win this round. Right now, she's in second place and voting ends tonight (Thursday, May 20).
The grand prize is $25,000 cash as well as a photoshoot to appear on the cover of the magazine.
One of the reasons Hebert wanted to compete is to overcome childhood bullying.
"Bullying has a strong effect on how you value your own self and is especially difficult when you are growing up — nobody deserves to be clouded by other people's noise when they are trying to figure themselves out and their purpose," she said.
"Everyone deserves the love to be supported and accepted for the person that they actually are or want to be. We can all share and learn from our differences rather than tear them down. Always remember that when someone comes in your corner and tries to minimize who you are, they are only mirroring the insecurities and conflicts they have within themselves — so don't mistakenly absorb this as your own."
If she were to win, Hebert said she'd put the cash toward her goal of settling into a country home with a welcoming yard for her loving rescue dog.
"I love hosting backyard BBQs and fires. If it's a spot close enough to a lake so I can hear the loon's calling at night, bonus! I will also love to extend gifts to those who have always encouraged my path and supported my healing with unconditional love," she said.
