Get ready to throw it back to the ‘80s and hit the golf course, all in support of a good cause.
The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation’s 9th Annual John P. Larche Charity Golf Classic is coming up Saturday, Aug. 11 at Spruce Needles Golf Club.
For the past three years, TADH Foundation acting executive director Patricia Gaudreau explained the theme has been Retro Gold. They’ve covered the ‘50s and ‘60s, with this year’s decade having special meaning.
“This year is the ‘80s era, which is kind of fitting because John Larche made his big gold discovery in the ‘80s,” she said.
“This golf tournament has raised more than $900,000 for our diagnostic imaging and cardiopulmonary department, so this year we’re going to hit the $1 million, which is kind of exciting.”
The goal is to raise $100,000 to replace ventilators at the Timmins hospital.
Right now, there are five adult ventilators at the facility, with the price tag for a new one being about $45,000.
To reach their fundraising goal, golfers are needed to hit the golf course, and have a little fun.
“We’re looking for foursomes, this is the big push to get some teams in. Serious golfers can apply, however they need not be serious golfers,” she said. “It’s a fun tournament, fun games, lots of prizes, lots of opportunities to help the hospital.”
For the tournament, the shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. and it’s a best ball format.
It is $500 per team, which includes golf, dinner, and takeaways. There will also be a silent auction and hole contests.
