While Timmins Transit is still operating a reduced service, routes changed for the summer due to a driver shortage are going back to normal soon.

Sept. 3, Timmins Transit is going back to the modified schedule and Routes 16 (South Porcupine and Porcupine), 37 and 38 (Melrose/Riverside) will run every 30 minutes.

The Northern College Express returns on Sept. 6 and allows students to travel to and from the downtown terminal directly to the college.

Timmins Transit has not run at a full-service level since the early stages of the pandemic. It's currently offering a Saturday schedule Monday to Saturday and regular Sunday schedule.

Based on the current ridership numbers, the City of Timmins said the transit will continue to run on the modified schedule.

The City says the number of people riding the bus has not returned to pre-pandemic levels.

"At this time, a modified schedule works best to balance service, convenience, and cost. Timmins Transit tracks ridership numbers every month and can respond to an increase in demand if necessary," reads a City of Timmins news release.

"Management has also initiated a complete route analysis that will help to determine system efficiency. It’s the first step in evaluating how to increase ridership and find alternative modes of service delivery that better suit the needs of our community.".
