Two new people pick up Heart of Gold awards

Mitch Bolduc, Rick Marin honoured at council meeting

TIMMINS - Two residents with hearts of gold are being recognized by the city.

At tonight's Timmins council meeting, Mitch Bolduc and Rick Marin were awarded the Heart of Gold Civic Recognition Award.

Bolduc has grown an online following with the stunning views of the city that he captures on his daily bike rides.

"Mitch’s photos showcasing the beauty of Timmins are a favourite on social media. They create an opportunity to stop and appreciate what we have in the north," said Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau.

"His pride in the community can be sensed in every photo, and it is this positivity that gives Mitch a heart of gold. It’s an honour to recognize how his enthusiasm for photography and his love for the city improves the culture of Timmins."

Marin is a familiar face at Timmins council.

For several years he's been working to make the city an ATV tourism destination.

He was nominated for the work he's done to build the Timmins ATV Club and the network of trails.

"This includes working with Timmins’ city council to approve a number of street-access routes that allow riders to reach the network of trails from home, without the need to trailer. This not only benefits local riders, but adds a tourism opportunity for guests looking to ride and reach Timmins’ hospitality sector of hotels and restaurants. Rick’s passion and leadership have led to numerous improvements in trail navigation, wayfinding signage, trail maintenance and safety," said Boileau.

Recipients of the award are regularly honoured at council meetings.

Nominations can be made for volunteer and community service, youth community and civic engagement, achievement in sports, and achievement in STEAM. More details on the program and the nomination form are available here.
