The Timmins Tornadoes were down south for a tournament in Richmond Hill

A Timmins team skated away from a weekend tournament with gold.

The Timmins Ringette Associations U16A Tornadoes and U19A teams were at the Richmond Hill ringette tournament this past weekend.

The U19A team won the gold medal.

To get to the gold medal game, the athletes won 7-5 against the London Lynx, 4-2 against the Richmond Hill Lightning, 4-1 versus the Nepean Ravens, and 6-3 against the Paris Thunder. The Tornadoes faced the Thunder again in the finals, taking the gold medal with a 6-3 win. This is the third tournament and third first-place finish for the team this season.

The U16A team had a strong start to the tournament, with a 5-3 win over the Guelph Predators and a 9-1 win against Richmond Hill.

In game three, the Tornadoes lost 3-2 against the Gloucester Cumberland Devils and in game four they lost 6-3 against the Dorchester Dragons.

They faced the Dragons again in the semifinals, losing 6-2. The local squad ended the tournament with a hard-fought and well-deserved fourth place.
