CARTIER - A Timmins driver is facing impaired charges after a vehicle was ditched over the weekend.
The driver and passenger were seriously injured in the single-vehicle crash on Highway 144 north of Cartier, said Nipissing West OPP in a news release. The injuries are not life-threatening.
Police responded to the collision, which resulted in the vehicle ending up in the ditch, on Nov. 2 around 3:20 p.m. The highway was reduced to one lane of altering traffic for about three hours during the police investigation.
A 21-year-old from Timmins is charged with operation while impaired - alcohol, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and dangerous operation.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 4 in Sudbury. The driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
If you see a suspected impaired driver behind the wheel of any vehicle, people are reminded to call 911. Police say "impaired driving never ends well, please plan a way to get home safely."
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
