Lois Foisy reached out to BayToday to share a "feel-good, happy story" for our readers to enjoy — and she caught the uplifting experience from the Labour Day long weekend on video.
"We went out with friends Sunday on Lake Nipissing boating and we came upon a female moose calf that was in distress. She was circling in the middle of the lake about half a kilometre offshore," of Blueberry Island, located near the mouth of the French River (see video above).
"She appeared tired attempting to stay afloat and was struggling to keep her head above water. She must have been swimming for some time as she seemed fatigued. We managed to corral her between the boat and wave runners and coaxed her back toward land.
"We assume she had made it across islands and then got out too far. We were successful and happy to say she made it safe and sound. Not something you see every day. We were happy to be at the right place at the right time."
Foisy says, "We have a really great group of friends that respect the land and we were so grateful we could do something this amazing."
Shannon Foisy, Dan and Marie-Lou Dunne, and Vickie and Wyman Whitmell round out the crew that directed the calf to land.
Foisy adds, "Just thought it was something pretty cool to share and we were so happy we could help her get to safety."
