Sue Chenier's security camera captured a bear making its way through their backyard in Schumacher over the weekend.

It may not quite look like spring outside yet, but the bruins are waking up.

There have been several bear sightings in Timmins already, including this curious guy making his way through Sue Chenier's back yard in Schumacher over the weekend.

Today on Facebook, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority (MRCA) also posted a notice that bears have been spotted at the Hersey Lake trails.

The MRCA is reminding people to be aware of their surroundings and keep their pets on leash. People are also being asked to stop putting bird seed in the feeders and along the trails.

Last week, the City of Timmins issued a reminder for residents to be bear aware as well.

For curbside garbage collection, the city says it should only be put out the morning of collection. For pickup, it should be curbside by 7:30 a.m.

The city also suggest storing the garbage bins in a bear-proof location such as a basement, sturdy shed or garage, and to spray the waste carts and lids with bleach or other disinfectant to deter wildlife.
