TIMMINS - With open water on a Timmins lake, people are being asked to avoid the area.
The week of Jan. 13, the Timmins Fire Department is doing ice water rescue training on Pearl Lake behind the McIntyre Community Building. While the lake is frozen, there is an area with barricades around open water.
On Facebook, the Timmins Professional Firefighters Association said they are required to be certified at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1006 ice/water rescue standard.
"We have received training in the past but this is one skill the government wants every service provider to redo to the newer level. Members have been training and completing all the required material to become certified. Please stay away from the open water," they wrote.
