Watermain break severely floods Hollinger Park

City's most iconic park partially submerged

An issue with a water line in the area of Water Tower Road on Thursday afternoon led a some significant flooding in the Hollinger Park area.

All low lying areas in the vicinity of the park were filled with deep waters.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. the break occurred. The city put out a notice informing residents in the nearby neighbourhoods that a discoloration in their tap water could occur.

City crews responded to the scene shortly thereafter and began repairing the break.

Pressure in the water distribution system in the north section of Timmins was reduced due to the issue.

Mayor Steve Black told TimminsToday that the issue was fixed and water was restored to the area at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Black said the issue was caused by a water line break between the water tower and the Hollinger booster station.

The city released an update at 8:30 p.m. saying that water had been officially restored, and that if any households are experiencing discolouration, they are to simply run the tap until it runs clear.
