With temperatures in the high teens, it was a record-breaking weather weekend for a number of spots in Northern Ontario.
According to Environment Canada, yesterday at the Timmins airport the mercury hit 18.1 C breaking the previous record of 14.9 C in 2009. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Timmins on Nov. 8 was 1991 when it was -21.2 C.
Other northern areas setting a new record Nov. 8 include:
- Kapuskasing - 18.2 C, breaking the 1945 record of 15 C
- Chapleau - 18.8 C, breaking the 2009 record of 13.2 C. Environment Canada notes this is also a record for all of November. The previous highest temperature registered for the month was 18.6 C on Nov. 5, 2008.
- Sudbury - 18.3 C, breaking the previous record of 15 C in 1975
- Sault St. Marie - 19.9 C, breaking the previous record of 16.1 C in 1945
- Thunder Bay - 19.1 C. The previous record was set in 2015 at 15.7 C.
Environment Canada expects more records to be set today and Tuesday.
