Author Rod Carley is reading from his new book RUFF. Carley is an award-winning author, humorist, director, actor, teacher and playwright. Copies of RUFF will be available to buy at the free event. Along with the book reading, there is a question and answer section and Carley will be chatting about his many creative projects.

Timmins’ Junior A hockey squad is on home ice for a regular season game. The box office opens 90 minutes before the puck drops. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (60 years and up) and sudents, $9 for youth ages seven to 12, and $7 for children six and under with a guardian. Sitting on the licensed balcony is $17. Tickets are also available online here.

Northern Ontario author Dieter Buse is celebrating the second edition of Come on Over — Northern Ontario A to Z is giving a local talk. The book features more than 100 cities, towns, and villages, local First Nations and more.

The Connaught Community Association is ready to serve up breakfast to raise money for the sports court. There's eggs, beans, pancakes, bacon, sausage, homefires, toast, beverages and more. The cost is $16 for adults, $8 for kids ages six to 10 years, and free for kids five years and younger.

Muriel E. Newton-White - Quiet Living, Close Looking: The life and work of an unsung artist of the North
Runs until Sept. 30
Timmins Museum National Exhibition Centre, 325 2nd Ave.
This exhibit is curated by Felicity Buckell and circulated by the Temiskaming Art Gallery. It celebrates the work of Newton-White, who died in 2011. She lived quietly and was always connected to the natural world. She captured her surroundings in drawings, paintings and books, working in oil, watercolour, egg tempera and India Ink. Entrance to the museum is free.
The Hollinger Open Pit Lookout
Get a glimpse into Newmont Porcupine’s mining operation in the middle of town. New this year is a bust of mining pioneer Benny Hollinger, who discovered the mine in 1909. It’s open seasonally seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. except when the mine is blasting, which is twice a day.
