What's On: Rock on the River, Festa Italiana lined up for this week

For the first time, Rock on the River is featuring three nights of live music at Hollinger Park

Summer Concert Series 
Tuesday, July 16, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Schumacher Lions Club Park behind the McIntyre Community Building 

Claudia Charlebois is taking the stage for the free weekly concert for the first hour, followed by Shaun Melanson. If weather stops the show, the rai ndate is the following day (Wednesday). Bring a chair and some cash for the community barbecue. It’s hosted by the Timmins Concert Series and Schumacher Lions Club.

Downtown Timmins Urban Park 
Wednesday, July 17, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Third Avenue between Spruce Street South and Balsam 

It’s around the world week at the Urban Park, which features community organizations and children’s activities. The weekly market also features local farmers. crafters and artisans. It happens rain or shine. Third Avenue is closed to traffic during the event.

Rock on the River 
July 18-20
Hollinger Park

The popular festival is back and for the first time ever is three nights. On July 18, Eric Girard and the Travelers are on stage at 7 p.m., followed by Tim Hicks at 8 p.m. and Dean Brody at 9:30 p.m. On Friday, July 19, Ruuster kicks off the entertainment at 6:15 p.m., Honeymoon Suite is on at 7 p.m., Lita Ford at 8 p.m., and headliner Bret Michaels with special guests Dee Snider and Steve Auger are on at 9:30 p.m. July 20, Puddy hits the stage at 6:20 p.m., Danko Jones is on at 7:15 p.m., Buckcherry plays at 8:15 p.m., and Live wraps up the action with their show at 10 p.m. More details and tickets are available here.

Rock the Block Cedar Street Concert
Saturday, July 20, 6 p.m. - midnight
Cedar Street South in front of the Dante Club

Featuring Thick as Thieves, food from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the show! Tickets are $20 for general admission and $30 for VIPs.

Festa Italiana Street Party
Sunday, July 21, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Cedar Street South, in front of the Dante Club

The Reason for the Season! Enjoy Italian food and desserts, Climb'n'Fun children's activities, and a classic car show. Paul Sebalj and Friends are lined up to keep people entertained.

Mountjoy Farmers' Market
Every Saturday, 9 a.m. - noon
537 Pavilion Dr., Timmins

This popular market is set up weekly until Thanksgiving. Stop by every week to pick up fresh local food, shop the crafters and artisans, and learn more about local organizations.

Summer Open Studio
Sunday, July 14, 12 - 4 p.m.
Roy Nicholson Park, Pine Street North and 8th Avenue

Drop by the Porcupine Art Club to meet with the artists, see demonstrations, and learn about the club. Artwork is on display and for sale. All ages are welcome to visit, and there is no cost to attend. Rain or shine, the studio is open!

Wild Alchemy
Runs until Aug. 29
Timmins Museum: NEC, 325 Second Ave.

This exhibit by the Broken Forest is in the Grey Gallery. The show tends to focus on our gaze on loss of biodiversity in the forest and asserts a metaphysical connection to the trees that is also threatened. It includes artists from Poland, Germany, the United States, Brazil, Colombia and Canada. There is a performance by some of the artists on Wednesday, July 24 from 6-8 p.m. The museum is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
