The Golden Manor has chosen to lower its flags to half-mast, honouring Dr. Edson ‘Ed’ Smith, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 26.
“Dr. Smith was the medical director for the Manor for 31 years, and truly, the geriatric programs that we have today are a direct outcome of his passion for, work with, and commitment to the elderly,” said Golden Manor Administrator Carol Halt.
“Dr. Smith has lived with Alzheimer’s for the past number of years until his passing. We have decided to lower our flags to honour his lifelong dedication to caring for those with dementia and all of the work he did for the Manor over his career.”
There will be no formal service, however, the family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 1- 4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at Miron-Wilson Funeral Home.
At the family’s request, as per the obituary: “For so many years, Edson took care of others in their most vulnerable state – the sick, elderly and dying. Despite this, he felt that death was just as much a part of life as the living of it. To all those who have memories of him in the community, it would be wonderful if you could harvest those positive feelings into an act of kindness in his memory. Call an elderly loved one and tell them about your day. Talk about days gone by, and it will delight them to the end of their days and beyond. Remembrance donations to the Golden Manor would be greatly appreciated.”
