TIMMINS - Windchills near -40 are expected tonight and into Friday morning.
Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for much of the region. The areas affected are Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Smooth Rock Falls, Chapleau and Missinaibi Lake. The warning continues for Manitouwadege and Hornepayne.
The alert says that cold windchill values are forecast under areas with clear skies.
"Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes," reads the alert.
"Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant."
The City of Timmins has also issued an alert for tonight.
