The City of Timmins' overnight winter parking ban is in effect.

The on-street parking ban started Nov. 1 and runs until April 30.

Vehicles parked on the street, boulevard or city-owned parking lots between 11:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. will be subject to a $50 fine. If it's not paid within three days the fine increases to $75. The vehicle may also be towed at the expense of the owner. Streets exempt from the ban have signs indicating it.

With winter on the way, the city also has a few other reminders for residents.

"Snow must never be placed onto the street or sidewalk. Moving snow from your driveway onto the sidewalk or street can create various safety hazards, obstruct pedestrian traffic, or obstruct the view of drivers. Even a small amount of snow left on a sidewalk can cause accessibility issues for some our residents," reads the notice.

For people putting up a winter car shelter, the city regulates them and residents require a $15 permit. To be approved, you'll have to submit an application that includes a site plan to Service Timmins.

Service Timmins can be reached at service.timmins.ca or by calling 705-264-1331.
