Winter weather travel advisory in effect

10 to 15 cm of snow is possible over the next 24 hours

With 10 to 15 centimetres of snow anticipated beginning tonight and tapering off into Monday evening, Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for much of Northeast Ontario.

This advisory includes Greater Sudbury and vicinity, plus:

  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake
  • Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake
  • North Bay - West Nipissing
  • Manitoulin - Blind River - Killarney

"Areas east of Lake Superior will see closer to 10 cm of snow and areas northeast of Georgian Bay will see closer to 15 cm of snow," according to Environment Canada. "Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly."

They also caution people to expect quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions, and that if visibility is reduced while driving to slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
