Year in Review: Trudeaus visit town

Margaret Trudeau, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made separate stops locally this year

Margaret Trudeau and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made separate stops in the city this year.

In February, Margaret Trudeau, a mental health issues advocate, shared her story with more than 500 people at Northern College in South Porcupine.

Sharing her journey, she engaged the room with stories about her family, including her son, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and first husband, former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Afterwards people lined up to have her sign a book or take a photo, with Trudeau staying longer than the allotted time to meet everyone.

At the end of the summer, the Prime Minister was the highlight of a rally at the Mountjoy Historical Conservation Area Aug. 29. Before stopping in Timmins, he talked to students in Kapuskasing and toured the Rayonier Advanced Materials paper mill.

The Timmins Chapter of the Klingon Assault Group even managed to snap a selfie with the Prime Minister and present with a framed print of Team MOTHRA's Trudeaunut.
