It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lionel Joseph "Joe" Emdin on November 13, 2024, at the age of 89 in his home in Elliot Lake Ontario. Born on January 27, 1935, Joe was resident of South Porcupine, where he was born and spent most of his life in the home he grew up in.
Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Annie Emdin, and seven brothers and sisters. He was also predeceased by his cherished dogs, who brought him immeasurable joy throughout his life.
He leaves behind his loving children: Joey Emdin , Roger Emdin, and Susan (Tony, predeceased) Vlahovich and grandchildren, Lindsay (Raef) Emdin, Vannaleigh (Jesse) Vlahovich, Ashten Vlahovich, Kiefer Emdin, and Kelton (Taylor) Emdin and one great-granddaughter, Evie. They were his greatest pride and joy. He will also be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Joe had a long career in the mining industry as a miner, welder, shop supervisor and construction manager. Joe loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing and golf which he enjoyed throughout his life. He was also an avid painter and woodworker, expressing his creativity in many ways. Gardening was another passion of his, and he found peace and satisfaction in nurturing his plants.
Joe will be fondly remembered for his warm heart, his creativity, and his devotion to those he loved. His legacy will live on in the memories of his family and friends.
A service will be held in the spring at the cemetery in South Porcupine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local animal shelter or food bank in Joe's memory.
