Flood warnings are in effect across parts of Ontario after the weekend's heavy rainfall and warmer temperatures.

Ontario Provincial Police are warning residents about localized flooding in Dufferin County northwest of Toronto, especially in communities of Grand Valley, Amaranth and East Garafraxa.

Police say local officials will be flying drones in the area to assess flood damage and sandbags are being prepared if the situation worsens.

They are urging residents to stay away from all waterways and proactively protect their properties from flooding.

Meanwhile, the Grand River Conservation Authority has issued flood warnings for parts of southwestern Ontario, including Drayton, County of Brant, Brantford and Six Nations.

A flood watch was also issued for the City of Cambridge as the water flow is increasing in the Grand River that passes through the city.

The conservation authority says a previously issued flood watch for the Grand River watershed remains in effect.

“The snowpack in the northern part of the watershed still contains a significant amount of water content,” it said in a statement.

“Warm temperatures combined with rain, which may be heavy at times, is resulting in snowmelt and increased runoff.”
