$40K in illicit drugs seized in Hearst

Suspected crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine tablets and cocaine worth an estimated $40,000 were seized by police in Hearst on Jan. 14.

HEARST - Three people were arrested and $40,000 of illicit drugs were taken off the streets in a drug bust in Hearst.

Around 10 a.m. yesterday (Jan. 14), James Bay OPP executed search warrants at a Fifteenth Street and Rose Street residence, as well as the vehicles associated with them.

Suspected crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine tablets, and cocaine with an estimated street value of $40,000 were seized. A gun, scales and about $500 in Canadian cash were also found. 

A 45-year-old man and 26-year-old woman, both from Hearst, are each charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - crystal methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking -methamphetamine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Careless storage of a firearm

A 39-year-old woman from Hearst is charged with: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking -methamphetamine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

All of the accused have been released from police custody. They are scheduled to appear in a Hearst court on Feb. 26.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
