$4K in cocaine seized in Highway 11 traffic stop

3 people charged with trafficking

SMOOTH ROCK FALLS - Cocaine, cash and an illegal switchblade were seized during traffic stop. 

Three people have been arrested after James Bay OPP pulled over a pick-up truck on Highway 11 in Smooth Rock Falls on Feb. 19 around 11 a.m. 

During the stop, police say there was a bag of suspected cocaine in plain view. 

The three passengers were arrested and the vehicle was searched, during which police found a prohibited switchblade, $10,000 in cash and cocaine with an estimated street value of $4,000. 

Police allege that one of the passengers who is criminally prohibited from driving had been behind the wheel before the traffic stop. The person driving at the time was brought to the Kapuskasing detachment for testing after officers say signs of intoxication. 

A 49-year-old man from Cache Bay is charged with: 

  • Operation while prohibited under the criminal code
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply with probation order

He is in police custody and appears in court on March 31 in Kapuskasing. 

A 29-year-old woman from Timmins is charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine

She has been released from police custody and appears in a Kapuskasing court on March 31. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

A 41-year-old from Constance Lake is charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, and possession of a prohibited device - switchblade. 

The accused was released from police custody and appears in a Kapuskasing court on March 31. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
