KAPUSKASING - Police say an intimate partner violence investigation led to an arson charge after a small fuel container was intentionally lit on fire.

On Nov. 26 around 6 p.m., James Bay OPP and the Kapuskasing fire department were called to a Stewart Avenue home in Kapuskasing.

Police say a small propane canister was lit on fire, causing a loud explosion and damaging the interior of the residence. The person who called police put out the fire before it spread, said OPP.

The suspect left the scene before police arrived but was located shortly after.

A 30-year-old from Fauquier-Strickland, whose name isn't being released to protect the identity of the victim, is charged with:

  • Mischief over $5,000
  • 4 counts of fail to comply with probation order

The accused is still in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Kapuskasing on Nov. 29.
