Break-and-enter suspect caught in the act flees from police

The accused was arrested is facing over a dozen charges

KIRKLAND LAKE - The accused in a break-in fled from police being arrested and charged. 

On Dec. 3 around 3 a.m., Kirkland Lake OPP responded to a break-in in progress on Fifth Street. When officers arrived, the suspect left the resident on an ATV and headed towards local trails. 

Shortly after, the suspect was located, but fled into a wooded area when he saw the police. The suspect was quickly located and arrested.

A 34-year-old Kirkland Lake man is charged with:

  • 2 counts of mischief under $5,000
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Break and enter a place- with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Allegation breach of CSO
  • Resist peace officer
  • Operation while impaired- alcohol
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Driving while under suspension- two counts
  • Drive off-road vehicle- no number plate
  • Drive off-road vehicle- no insurance
  • Fail to wear proper helmet
  • Lamps not lit

The accused remains in custody and has a court appearance on Jan. 9. Their driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
