Early morning fire near Cochrane destroys house, garage: OPP

COCHRANE -  A structure fire discovered this morning by a police officer on patrol is under investigation. 

Just before 4 a.m. today (Dec. 27), a James Bay OPP officer discovered a structure fire at a residence on Highway 11 in Fournier Township west of Cochrane. 

The home and a detached garage were fully engulfed by the fire and eventually collapsed, said police in a news release. 

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Ontario Fire Marshall and police say there will be an update when more details are available. 

The investigation also includes the OPP forensic identification service and crime unit.
