Hearst driver facing trafficking, impaired charges

HEARST - An obstructed licence plate led to impaired driving charges and more for a Hearst man. 

On Feb. 2 around 11 p.m., James Bay OPP pulled over a vehicle for having an obstructed licence plate on Fontaine Drive in Hearst.

Officers determined that the driver had consumed intoxicating substances, and they were arrested and brought to the detachment for testing. During a search, police found about 45 methamphetamine tablets. 

A 48-year-old man from Hearst is charged with operation while impaired - drugs, operation while impaired - blood drug concentration, and possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine. 

The accused was released from police custody and appears in court on March 5 in Hearst. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and his licence was suspended for 90 days. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
