TIMMINS - Police are investigating reports of gunshots in a Timmins neighbourhood.
Timmins Police received the call about possible gunshots around 5:40 a.m. today (Dec. 18). The incident is in the area of Cedar Street North and Fifth Avenue. No one was injured, says police.
Cedar Street was blocked off north of the city hall parking lot near the former Safe Health Site Timmins building. There was also police tape blocking the laneways between Cedar and Balsam on the block between Algonquin and Fifth Avenue.
"The area was quickly contained and remains blocked off while the investigation continues," reads a police news release.
The criminal investigation unit and forensics are at the scene.
If the report is proven to be true, it would be the second shooting in the downtown area Timmins within a week.
On Friday, Dec. 13 one person was injured in a shooting on Third Avenue.
In recent weeks, there has been a rash of break-ins at downtown businesses, and an assault at the Timmins Transit station.
Two arrests have been made in relation to the break-ins, but police are still investigating other incidents.
