A Timmins Police officer was allegedly assaulted during a downtown arrest.
Early this morning (Aug. 3), a Timmins Police officer doing crime abatement patrols downtown Timmins saw a disturbance in progress between two adults in a parking lot.
"While addressing the altercation, the officer came to learn that one of the persons was in breach of strict conditions, imposed by the court, in keeping with a release order," said police in a news release.
When the officer tried to arrest the suspect, police say the man "used physical force as he resisted being arrested".
A 35-year-old man from Chelmsford is charged with resisting a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The accused was held in police custody waiting for a bail hearing today.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
