Manslaughter charge laid in 2023 Kirkland Lake shooting

KIRKLAND LAKE - A third person has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a Kirkland Lake man in 2023.

On the night of Thursday, June 8, 2023,  Kirkland Lake OPP responded to a shooting on Second Street East in the Northern Ontario town. The victim was 47-year-old Ernest Renaud. 

The next day, two people were arrested — Mathew Leiva-Pineda of Barrie was charged with first-degree murder, and Jeffrey Rodrigue of Dobie was charged with accessory after the fact (murder). 

The investigation has been ongoing and a third person is now charged, OPP announced today. 

Jordan Parkes, 27, of Vaughan has been arrested and charged with manslaughter. 

They're scheduled to appear in a Kirkland Lake court on Friday, Feb. 7. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.

The crime unit continues to investigate the murder.
