Moosonee teen charged with impaired driving

Police remind the public that impaired driving is the leading cause of death on Ontario roads

James Bay OPP charged an 18-year-old with impaired driving in Moosonee.

MOOSONEE - A 911 call about a suspected impaired driving led to charges for a teenager. 

On Dec. 10 around 9 p.m., James Bay OPP received a report about a suspected impaired driver.

Officers found the vehicle in a commercial parking lot on Ferguson Road in Moosonee. They determined the driver had been drinking and arrested them. 

"The OPP reminds the public that impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of death on Ontario's roads. Young drivers (under 22 years-of-age) in Ontario are subject to a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol and drugs, meaning they must maintain a blood alcohol concentration of zero while driving," said police in a news release.

An 18-year-old from Moosonee is charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Young driver - B.A.C. above zero

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Moosonee on Jan. 14. 

Their licence was also suspended for 90 days.
