Second degree murder charge laid in 2022 infant death

CHAMBERLAIN - A second-degree murder charge has been laid in the death of a three-month-old child over two years ago. 

The infant was found with no vital signs at a residence on Chamberlain Road 5 the afternoon of Sept. 3, 2022. They were brought to the hospital by paramedics and later pronounced dead.

The Temiskaming OPP investigation has been ongoing and on Nov. 12, 2024, two people were arrested and charged, police announced today. 

Jeffrey Doonan, 32, of King Kirkland is charged with second degree murder, criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Michelle Doonan, 33, of King Kirkland is charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Both of the accused are in police custody and will appear in a Haileybury court today (Nov. 13).

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
