Suspicious death deemed a 'firearm-related homicide', victim identified as missing person

EGAN TOWNSHIP - A man reported missing earlier this month has been identifed as the body found near Matheson, with police saying it's believed to be a "firearm-related homicide." 

Police continue to look for 43-year-old Lucas MacDonald, who South Porcupine OPP believe may have the gun and information on the death.

On May 23, OPP found a body in wooded area of Egan Township, which is southwest of Matheson. The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Marcel Thoma of Petawawa, a person who was reported missing and was last in contact with people on May 17 to say that he was about 30 minutes west of Matheson. 

Police say the investigation is being treated as a "firearm-related homicide".

MacDonald lives in Egan Township and has two outstanding warrants out for his arrest for breach of recognizance in unrelated matters.

"If located, use extreme caution, call police and do not approach," said OPP in a news release issued late on May 25.

MacDonald is described as 5' 8", dark collar-length hair with some grey, and a thin short beard. He was last seen wearing a ballcap with a bandana underneath it and wrap-around sunglasses. 

"The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their surroundings and personal safety at all times and to call the police to report any suspicious activity," said police.

The investigation is ongoing.
