'These speeds are unacceptable,' said OPP after incidents on highway

Police nabbed two drivers on the Trans-Canada Highway on the weekend

THUNDER BAY — Ontario Provincial Police are admonishing drivers for travelling at high speed after two incidents in Northwestern Ontario.

Over the weekend, police caught one motorist driving at 151 km/h in a 90 km/h zone near Thunder Bay.

The man was charged with stunt driving, lost driving privileges for 30 days, and lost access to his vehicle for 14 days, after which impoundment fees will have to be paid.

According to police, this motorist told the investigating officer that police could not legally seize his driver's licence.

The second incident occurred in the Dryden area, where OPP recorded a vehicle travelling at 143 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

The operator was also charged with stunt driving.

A passenger in the vehicle paid the price, as he was the registered owner, and was told it would be impounded for 14 days.

"These speeds are unacceptable, and endanger everyone on the highway," OPP stated in a social media post.
