Timmins woman arrested in relation to robbery, theft investigations

The Timmins Police Service has charged a person with theft-related offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the evening hours of Thursday, July 8 at an Algonquin Boulevard grocery store in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service responded to the call for service where a female suspect was observed by a store loss prevention officer [allegedly] in the midst of leaving the store with approximately $150 in merchandise while failing to pay for the items.

The responding officers located the suspect and a male acquaintance at the intersection of James Street and Brunette Road.

The female suspect was arrested at this location while the male party fled from police on foot but was eventually located and arrested in the Toke Street area.

He has been positively identified as Derrick Wrightman, 26 of Timmins.

It was determined that the Timmins Police hold a current arrest warrant in the name of the male party.  

Wrightman remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to address the charges that resulted in the arrest warrant being issued.

In the course of the arrest of the female suspect, a Timmins Police located a weapon in her possession.

As a result of the incident, McKenna Nakogee, 19 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Carry a concealed weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Further concurrent investigations by the Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigations Division into a robbery that occurred during the late evening hours of Wednesday, July 7 at an Algonquin Boulevard gas station has determined her involvement.

As a result of this separate incident, McKenna Nakogee, 19 of Timmins, has been charged with additional counts of:
    •    Robbery with violence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Carry a concealed weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Use firearm while committing an offence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Nakogee remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
