Traffic stop leads to impaired, trafficking charges for Hearst man

Police say methamphetamine pills were seized

HEARST - A Hearst man is facing impaired driving and trafficking charges after a traffic stop. 

On Feb. 8 around 1:30 p.m., James Bay OPP pulled over a vehicle on Jolin Street in Hearst. 

Officers determined the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance. He was arrested and brought to the Hearst detachment for further testing, said police in a news release. 

While searching the vehicle, officers found methamphetamine tablets, which were seized.

A 45-year-old man from Hearst is charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000

The accused appeared at a bail hearing on Feb. 9. His licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
