Kivi Park, located just south of Sudbury, is a magical destination for individuals and families of all ages, skills, and abilities. This year-round outdoor recreation facility provides countless opportunities to enjoy the beauty of nature in every season.
The non-profit park is located on 480 acres of land south of Sudbury that was donated by Lily Fielding. It was her vision that inspires the continued enhancements, events, and experiences that are available to all who visit.
“We’re a place where families come together to create memories. It really is a place that has something for everyone in the entire community,” says Kerry Lamarche, Executive Director of Kivi Park. “It is a great place to come and enjoy the day or the whole weekend.”
The Great Pumpkin Hunt
Each fall, Kivi Park hosts The Great Pumpkin Hunt. This year the event will be held on Saturday, October 22 between 11am and 3pm. The fee to participate is simply a donation to Kivi Park’s Affordability Fund, which helps to ensure that all visitors can afford to enjoy the park.
“This year we are hiding about 750 pumpkins throughout the park. We have a Spooky Story Trail Walk, a Scary Smores Station, and a Freaky Family Photoshoot. It is a great event that is growing every year,” explains Kerry.
Magical Winter Wonderland
Visitors can stay active and enjoy the outdoors all year around at Kivi Park. Snowshoeing, skating, cross country skiing, fat biking, a winter-friendly playground, and a sliding hill are all popular winter activities. The fires are often ablaze throughout the winter for cozy warm-ups and impromptu marshmallow roasting.
Nina’s Way is one of the popular winter activities at the park. It is a 1.3 km skating path that winds amongst the birch trees. The path is lit and music plays along the way to make it an enchanting evening activity throughout the winter. Just make sure to bring your own skates. The cross-country skiing paths have also been illuminated so visitors can enjoy 3 km of solar lights for evening skiing.
During the month of December, Kivi Park sparkles with over 50 lighted trees. The playground is also lit so kids can play in the dark. They might also catch a glimpse of Santa, who is often seen enjoying the many activities around the park.
