Nothing beats a summer BBQ, but one that brings the whole community together? That’s a whole different level of celebration.

The Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine is excited to present the Timmins Rotary Ribfest 2024 from August 23rd to the 25th. The event will be held at Participark, in the popular Mount Joy Historical Conservation Area on Riverside Drive.

“It’s a great community event,” says Andre Rochon, Ribfest co-chair. “Ribfest has been away for 9 years and this is the first year back!”

The organizers are looking to have a DJ perform on Friday night and have bands playing on Saturday.

The BBQ itself will be hard to beat, with offerings from a number of North America’s best ribbers. Big Bubba Lou’s Bar-B-Q is a seasoned BBQ competitor who is used to travelling all over the continent, now with the 3rd generation working the smoker. Jack the Ribber is based in St. Thomas and is a premier professional ribbing team that travels all over Ontario. The Route 55 BBQ team offers authentic southern BBQ that is Canadian-owned; its concept is based on the land marked BBQ along R55, starting at Chicago and continuing on to St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans.

Rochon’s go-to order? A full sample that includes ribs, chicken and pulled pork. He also looks forward to trying the food from all 3 talented ribbers.

Of course you can also look forward to some other delicious fare, including hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, blooming onions and more. There are always great refreshing drinks, sides and sweet treats to round out your meal.

Beyond the food, expect lots of great activities for families. Pick your favourite vehicle at the car show on Saturday. The fire department is looking at bringing 3 different trucks for visitors to see, including a house for kids to go through and explore. On Saturday and Sunday the Kids’ Zone will have fun games and obstacle courses set up. Guests of all ages can do a little shopping too; they’ll enjoy looking through the goods local crafters have for sale.
