Do you know a student who is doing great work in the community and who should be recognized for making their neighbourhood a better place to live?
If so, they could be the recipient of the Community First, a Division of YNCU’s Young Neighbours Achievement Award, a community award that acknowledges student volunteers who support a local, charitable cause.
Community Change Makers is a recently launched initiative by Community First that recognizes compassionate young people while also supporting the communities that Community First serves.
With all the challenges endured through the pandemic Community First wanted to show their support of their 20 branch communities by recognizing students who share the credit union’s community values, and who are making their neighbourhoods a better place to live.
The award celebrates students’ volunteer efforts and encourages their spirit of giving back.
How to nominate your local Community Change Maker
To be eligible, the nominee must be a student aged 14 to 25 who is currently supporting a local charitable cause or community need.
The first 50 student Change Makers nominated before October 21, 2020, will be recognized with a Young Neighbours Achievement Award which includes the opportunity to donate $150 to a charitable cause of their choice.
The nominee must live and volunteer in a Community First branch community but does not have to be a member.
Anyone in the community can nominate a student they know that fits that age range who is making their neighbourhood a better place. There is no voting. As long as the nominee is within the first 50 nominations and meets Community First’s criteria, they will be recognized.

Community First has always made community involvement an integral part of their operations
Community First is a financial co-operative where their members are their owners, keeping the credit union accountable to how they spend their money and the ways they give back to their communities.
Supporting members and connecting with the communities they serve is the heart and foundation of Community First business. Local branches have several community partnerships and programs where they are working with, and giving back, to their member communities.
In the early months of the COVID pandemic, Community First launched the Healthcare Heroes Appreciation Campaign, hosting thank you lunches and delivering gift certificates to show support and appreciation for their local healthcare and frontline heroes.
Community First also offers the Good Neighbours Employee Volunteer Program that, similar to Change Makers, recognizes the efforts of employees who volunteer for a local charity, and who also receive $150 for the charity of their choice.
