Top 10 Summer Destinations in Timmins

Explore Nature by Foot, Bike, or Boat

The 180-hectare Hersey Lake Conservation Area is located 5 kilometers north of Timmins on Highway 655. The area is a popular destination for hikers, mountain bikers, canoers/kayakers, and bird watchers.

Grassy River/High Falls is another popular summer destination for both visitors and residents of Timmins. The relatively easy 1.4 kilometer loop through dense forest includes multiple viewing areas for hikers to take in the awe-inspiring High Falls.

Unique Views

The new Hollinger Open Pit Lookout gives visitors a great vantage point to take in views of Kidd Creek, Mount Jamieson, the City of Timmins, as well as the mine itself.

It is open from June 1 through September 30, 8am until 8pm except during mine blasting between 11:30am-12:00pm and 3:30pm – 4:00pm.

Calling Wildlife Lovers

Cedar Meadows in Timmins offers visitors the chance to get to know the local wildlife a little better. Each day at 3pm, they offer tractor-drawn wagon tours throughout the 100-acre wildlife park.

Catch a glimpse of the bison, elk, and deer that call Cedar Meadows home.

Paddling

If you love canoeing and kayaking, Timmins is the place to be this summer. There are countless beautiful paddling spots to choose. The Tourism Timmins team narrowed it down to their top three:

Kenogamissi Lake is only a 30-minute drive from Timmins or you can camp right on the lake at The Cache Campground.

Explore the 22 spring-fed glacier lakes at Kettle Lakes Provincial Park located an easy 40-minute drive east of Timmins.

Take 4-5 days to trek the Tatachikapika River where you can brave the rapids or portages around them.

Shopping in Downtown Timmins

Downtown Timmins is home to 250 businesses which means there are always interesting shops, restaurants, and services to visit.

During the summer, downtown is also home to the Urban Park Market every Thursday starting on July 4.

Get active and meet new friends by trying out a new sport - pickleball, swimming, skateboarding, cricket, baseball, badminton, golf, tennis, and everything in between are available in Timmins.
