TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Timmins mayoral candidate Lauchlan MacInnes':
Born on Aug. 28, 1992, Timmins has been my home for almost my entire life. Despite being from an English only household, I was enrolled in the French immersion program beginning in kindergarten. In fact, for a few years I could only read and write in French. I valued this experience so much that I pursued the French immersion program for the rest of my education.
In high school I took an interest in history and politics, and these two interests would inform my post-secondary ambitions. It was also around this time I began working in the construction industry during my summer vacations. After graduating from Timmins High and Vocational School I went to the University of Ottawa in pursuit of a bilingual B.A in history.
For the next four years I would study in Ottawa and work construction in Timmins during the summer to fund the endeavour. Working in these two drastically different environments instilled in me a diverse skill set and gave me an appreciation for hard work.
After graduating from university I continued to work in construction where I quickly had additional responsibilities trusted to me. This culminated in my current position as assistant supervisor on the Northern College expansion.
Still very interested in politics, I actually began considering a future mayoral run two years ago. My experience in both the academic and practical spheres, as well as some encouragement from friends and family, ultimately led to my desire to pursue a career in public service in Timmins.
The other candidates in the mayor's race are:
Steve Black, Raymond Burey, Daniel Fortier, and George Pirie
