TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 1 (Mountjoy) candidate Veronica Farrell's:
I have lived in Mountjoy Township for 41 years and my husband and I raised two girls here. Both girls met their future husbands here and they both settled down in Mountjoy.
I presently sit on council as well as four boards of the city. MRCA, Porcupine Health Unit, CDSSAB and Violence Against Women.
I am retired from Porcupine Credit Corp where I worked for 35 years.
I also sit on the board for Community Living Timmins.
Previously sat on board for Timmins Special Olympics.
I am very devoted to all the committees I sit on and work well with all the people I sit with.
I would like to continue to sit on city council. I have a few projects that I would like to see to the end. For example, work with the school crossing guards as well as finalizing a proper crossing on Shirley and Jean streets.
There are many issues to be worked on and being retired, I have the time to work on them.
Mountjoy is a very big area and one of my priorities will be to have two councillors sit in our area. Ward 5 has four councillors. They would be OK with three councillors.
I am only one voice in a council of eight but I will make sure my voice is heard around the table for the people of Mountjoy.
I will gladly meet with anyone who has questions for me on a one on one basis. This way they will have my full attention. I can be reached at 705-360-1331. Questions can also be sent to my email address [email protected].
The other candidates in the Ward 1 race are:
Ken Pye and Rock Whissell
