TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 2 (South Porcupine) candidate Walter Wawrzaszek's:

I was born and raised in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, and moved to South Porcupine in 1978 with my wife and two children — Buzz and Barbara. We had two more children born here in South Porcupine — Joshua and Jeremiah. We presently have 12 grandchildren.

My four children and families have also decided to make the east end their home.

South Porcupine is a wonderful small and close-knit community in which to raise a family. It is so important to make sure that our city is a place for our young people to stay, find work and raise their families.

I worked for the City of Timmins at the Tisdale Public Works Shop for 33 years. After retirement I decided I wanted to run for council. This is something that I had told my family many times I wanted to do.

Over the years I have seen many changes, some have been good but others have proved to not be cost saving measure for the city.

Some of my concerns going forward are: infrastructure, city roads, sewer and water, city buildings and working with the Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed.

A few highlights from this council include: INEOS Calabrian Plant and Certarus Natural Gas headquarters, $26 million to upgrade pumping station and storage tanks around Porcupine Lake and $4.3 million to build an industrial rail park. There has been $11 million spent on the connecting link between Rae Hill to Legion Drive.

I would like to thank the residents of Ward 2 for giving me the chance to represent them for the last four years and I am looking forward to being re-elected for another term.

The other candidates running Ward 2 are:

Mickey Auger, Lorne Feldman, and Jean Fex

Meet the mayoral candidates here.
