TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 5 candidate Cory Robin’s:
I am Cory Robin, born and raised here in Timmins, graduate from Northern College’s business program and proudly Indigenous.
Together, we are a family of five; I have the support of my partner Melissa and our three young children. We believe in working towards a sustainable vibrant city, one where our children would want to live. Too many of our community’s youth leave for school and never return.
Being a Ward 5 resident and member of our Indigenous community, I have seen first hand the challenges our city faces. I’ve seen the homelessness, I’ve been a victim of theft, and I drive on our crumbling infrastructure every day. I know these streets, I know the issues.
I also see our financial challenges. I manage Northern Ontario’s largest Indigenous business program and I sit on local, regional, and national economic committees. I understand finances and make tough decisions every day. Applying our taxes in a sustainable way and asking tough questions is part of my job. Our city faces tough decisions, there are issues socially and fiscally that need to be addressed. I have the experience to know that in a committee, you don’t always get what you want, but sometimes you’ll get what you need.
I want Timmins to vote for a young family and strong work ethic, someone with ties to our Indigenous community, someone who understands and has experience in the financial world, someone who cares about the city they live in, and someone with integrity and respect for those around them.
After searching for those qualities in a candidate, I realized the person I wanted to vote for looked a lot like me. I don’t have an agenda or axe to grind, I simply want to do what’s best for our community.
The other candidates running in Ward 5 are:
Michelle Boileau, Michael Doody, Karina Miki Douglas-Takayesu, Rick Dubeau, John Ivanovs, Andrew Marks, Kristin Murray, Noella Rinaldo, Jean (John) Roy, Jason Sereda, Alex Szczebonski
