Voter turnout in Timmins drops

The unofficial results show that only 41.51% of eligible voters cast a ballot

TIMMINS - The flurry of activity at Timmins polls was down in the Ontario election.

The unofficial voter turnout in the Feb. 27 election was 41.54 per cent.

Elections Ontario had 33,122 registered voters on the list in Timmins, and 13,758 ballots were cast. In the 2022 election, the local voter turnout was 43.5 per cent, with 14,554 voters.

The breakdown of the Timmins votes is:

  • PC George Pirie - 9,431 for 68.55 per cent of the votes 
  • NDP Corey Lepage - 2,732 or 19.86 per cent of the votes 
  • Liberal Dominic Casto - 1,127 or 8.19 per cent of the votes 
  • Green Marie-Josée Yelle - 248 or 1.8 per cent of the votes 

On election day, there was a snowstorm in the city. School buses were cancelled and a winter travel advisory was in effect.

Provincially, the unofficial voter turnout was about 45.4 per cent. 

While the numbers used in this story for the 2022 election are confirmed, the 2025 election data aren't official yet. The number of registered voters doesn't include people who registered on voting day.
