This local lake is widely known for its beach, but it offers some great outdoor activities in the winter months as well.
Hersey Lake Conservation Area is located off of Highway 655. To get there, take Boychuk Drive, which is just past Manitoulin Transport.
For the summer months, the conservation area features an unsupervised beach, picnic areas, and 55 kilometres of trails that connect to the larger Timmins Recreational Trail Network.
Visitors can stop to take in the sights at one of the many scenic lookouts or rest areas along the way. The Tamarack Trail features a self-guided tour of the local flora and fauna for those looking to learn about the natural history of the area. There is also a designated off-leash area for dogs at the Rainbow Lake Loop trail.
Once the snow falls, the trails can also be used for skiing and snowshoeing, and a few are groomed for winter walks. All intersections are marked with signposts for easy navigation.
Visit the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority’s website for more information about Hersey Lake, or any of the other conservation areas in and around Timmins.
