The Urban Park is back for another season.
Each week until the end of August, a section of the downtown core will be closed to traffic to allow for the activities.
Under a hot summer sun, kids were at the Urban Park today for the kick off, playing with boats in a pool, making necklaces and playing with Legos.
For the event, every Wednesday there are activities for kids. Downtown Timmins BIA executive director Noella Rinaldo said it means “parents can bring their kids downtown and there’ll always be things for them to do.”
Thursday is the popular farmers’ market, and Friday is tunes at noon and the humane society. The events run from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rinaldo noted, however, that the bell for the farmers' market rings at 11 a.m., which means that vendors can't sell anything before then.
“Now every week we have a theme, so we kind of follow the theme where this week it’s a beach theme, next week is superheroes, which is always a popular theme. Kids can make their own superhero cape, we’ll have the superhero local farmers and we’re going to have a bunch of people coming down that are dressed up in superhero costumes,” she said.
The themes for the rest of the summer are:
July 11-13, Superheroes
July 18-20, Health Fair
July 25-27, Halloween
Aug. 1-3, Science Week
Aug. 8-10, Board Games
Aug. 15-17, 1950s
Aug. 22-24, Back to School
